BOQ 2016 Partners’ Forum

BOQ 2016 Partners’ Forum Last December 20, 2016 the Annual Partners and Stakeholders’ Forum of the Bureau of Quarantine was held at the City State Tower Hotel Manila. This year’s forum focused on presenting to partners its milestones and roadmap towards achieving its vision as a travel health bureau. Department of Health

The Department of Health (DOH) holds the over-all technical authority on health as it is a national health policy-maker and regulatory institution.

Bureau of Customs

Historical records show that the Philippine Customs Service started many centuries back long before the Philippines was discovered by the eastern and western expeditionaries. The Philippines had already a flourishing trade with countries of Southeast Asia, but since money at that time was not yet the medium of exchange, people then resorted to the barter system of commodities. The rulers of the barangays were known as the “datus” or “rajahs” collected tributes from the people before they were allowed to engage in their trade.

Manila International Airport Authority

Manila International Airport Authority, by 2020, will be the leading organization in airport development and management pursuing excellence in customer service, world-class facilities, high quality security and safety standards, to encourage and promote international and domestic air traffic in the country as a means of making the Philippines a center of international trade and tourism.

World Health Organization

WHO’s primary role is to direct international health within the United Nations’ system and to lead partners in global health responses.

Bureau of Immigration

The Bureau of Immigration started as a division of the Bureau of Customs during the American regime in 1899. This was pursuant to Act No. 702 of the Philippine Commission. It was appropriate because ship travel and ship cargo were interlinked and hence, the office was at the Bureau of Customs. It seems that the government then, gave more importance on the entry of goods than monitoring of foreign nationals coming into the country. The government was more interested in generating customs duties from these goods than in the control and regulation of the arrival and stay of foreigners. The functions of immigration remained under the said bureau until 1937 when it was transferred as a division of the Bureau of Labor.

Philippine Ports Authority

Prior to the creation of PPA, port administration in the Philippines was merged with the traditional function of revenue collection of the Bureau of Customs (BOC). Port and harbor maintenance was the responsibility of the Bureau of Public Works (BPW). In the early 1970's, there were already 591 national and municipal ports plus 200 private ports scattered all over the country necessitating the need for long-range planning and rationalization of port development.
